Hydraulic cylinder parts we manufacture
We produce hydraulic cylinder components to drawing - for repair, retrofit and OEM production, from single replacement parts to series. Our range covers:
- Piston rods - induction-hardened, hard-chrome plated and polished for seal life and corrosion resistance.
- Cylinder tubes (barrels) - honed or roller-burnished seamless tube to a precise bore finish.
- Pistons - machined with seal and guide-ring grooves to the seal manufacturer's profile.
- Glands, heads and end caps - with bore, seal grooves and port threads.
- Clevises, eyes and trunnions - mounting parts welded or machined to the rod and tube.
- Flanges, ports and threaded bushings - to standard or custom interfaces.
Materials and surface treatment
Cylinder life is set as much by material and finishing as by geometry. Common choices:
- Piston-rod steel (C45, 42CrMo4) - induction-hardened and hard-chrome plated (typ. 20-30 µm), or nickel-chrome for marine and offshore duty.
- Honed tube (E355 / ST52, seamless) - cold-drawn and honed to an H8 bore.
- Piston and gland steel - C45 or ductile cast iron, with seal grooves to ISO.
- Stainless steel (AISI 316 / 431) - for corrosive, food and marine duty.
- Bronze guide bands and bushings - for side-load support and low friction.
Treatments include induction hardening, hard-chrome plating, nitriding and QPQ for corrosion, plus straightening and polishing of the chrome rod.
Finishing and tolerances that matter
On a hydraulic cylinder, surface finish and fit decide whether the seals last. The figures that drive cost and performance:
| Feature | Typical spec | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Rod surface | Ra 0.1-0.2 µm, chrome 20-30 µm | Seal life, corrosion resistance |
| Tube bore | H8, Ra 0.2-0.4 µm | Piston-seal sealing and wear |
| Rod-to-gland fit | f7 / H8 | Guidance without scoring |
| Rod straightness | ≤ 0.2 mm/m | Even seal load, no side wear |
Every part is inspected for diameter, roundness, surface roughness and straightness, and supplied with a dimensional report on request.
How to order hydraulic cylinder parts
To quote quickly and accurately, send a drawing or simply these parameters:
- Bore, rod diameter and stroke
- Closed and open length and mounting type (clevis, trunnion, flange, foot)
- Working pressure and medium
- Seal series or groove dimensions, and rod-end thread
- Material, surface treatment and quantity
No drawing? Send us the worn part or the old cylinder. We can reverse-engineer the geometry and reproduce each component to the original specification.
Why source cylinder parts from BIB Parts
We are a single-source manufacturing partner: turning, honing, hard-chrome plating, grinding and welding backed by in-house engineering and a DFM review on every quote. From a single replacement rod to a full set of cylinder parts, you get one supplier, one point of contact and consistent quality.
